Managed execution
Every figure below is read from the live Entertainment Weekly endpoint catalog — 5 endpoints, 8 documented request parameters, and 5 published response schemas — the same catalog Docs and Playground run against.
5 documented Entertainment Weekly endpoints, grouped into 5 request families — Article, Author and Headlines, plus 2 more.
8 request parameters are documented across those Entertainment Weekly endpoints, 8 of them required — the full input contract is public before you write any integration code.
5 of the 5 Entertainment Weekly endpoints ship a recorded example response, and 5 carry a documented response schema — you can code against the real JSON before the first request.
Entertainment Weekly endpoints document their error responses (400, 404 and 503) alongside the success schema, so a block, a rate limit, or a missing record comes back as a typed error rather than silently empty data.
5 hosted MCP tools back the Entertainment Weekly endpoints, so an agent can call the same routes with the same parameters and the same JSON contract, with no custom glue.

MCP tool ew_news
/ew/sectionsLists the nine Entertainment Weekly primary-navigation sections accepted by `ew-headlines`: `tv`, `movies`, `music`, `what-to-watch`, `binge`, `celebrity`, `awardist`, `books` and `theater`. Each entry has the `slug`, display `name` and section `url`.
MCP tool ew_sections
/ew/articleReturns one Entertainment Weekly article by its canonical `url` in the form `ew.com/<slug>-<id>`. The response has the title, description, publish and update times, section, authors, lead image, body `paragraphs` and a `paywalled` flag. Blocked or malformed pages return an upstream error.

How to scrape Entertainment Weekly
Entertainment Weekly's topic structure is useful for a content-recommendation or awards research pipeline that needs to preserve editorial intent. What to Watch, Binge, The Awardist, books, theatre, TV, movies, music, and celebrities are distinct editorial destinations. Use The Awardist for awards-season reporting and What to Watch for recommendations rather than mixing either with a straight casting announcement. Keep the title or performer, section, publication date, byline, and article URL with each result. This makes it possible to distinguish a timely release update from an evergreen viewing guide that remains prominent in the feed. On 2026-10-27 the 9 section slugs returned very uneven feeds: tv held 67 items while binge held 2.
The sections route lists tv, movies, music, what-to-watch, binge, celebrity, awardist, books and theater. The headlines route accepts only those values, so scope a monitor by one of them.
Headline and top-story items carry a title and URL, plus an image when the card shows one. There is no summary or timestamp, so fetch the article when you need a date or a byline.
Article calls take a canonical URL in the form ew.com/<slug>-<id> and return title, description, publish and update times, section, authors, lead image, body paragraphs and a paywalled flag. Blocked or malformed pages come back as errors.
The author route takes a canonical author URL and returns the contributor's name, job title, biography and recent articles.
The tv section returned 67 items and binge returned 2 on 2026-10-27, so one polling interval does not fit every slug. The sampled rows carried only title, URL and image, with no publication time or summary, so date a story by fetching the article instead of trusting the feed order.

Headline cards expose only a title, URL and optional image. The publish and update times come from the article call.
It marks content behind a subscription. Store it beside the body paragraphs so a partial text is not treated as the full piece.
