Chicago Tribune API endpoint
Returns public Chicago Tribune article metadata and body paragraphs from a canonical article URL. For subscriber-only articles the response carries the free lead-in with paywalled set to true.
/chicagotribune/articleQuery parameter: url is a canonical HTTPS article URL on chicagotribune.com or www.chicagotribune.com of the form /YYYY/MM/DD/<slug>/, e.g. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/24/gov-jb-pritzker-illinois-lawmakers-data-centers/. Section pages, author pages, the feed, and other hosts return an invalid-params error.
The endpoint returns public metadata (title, description, published_at, updated_at, section, authors, image_url) and the body paragraphs. Image captions are not included.
Paywall behavior: most stories are "metered" on the site (a reader-count wall drawn by the browser) but the full text is in the page an anonymous request receives, so paywalled is omitted and paragraphs holds the whole story. A minority of stories are subscriber-only: the server sends only the free lead-in, so paywalled is true and paragraphs holds just that lead-in (usually one paragraph). An example of a subscriber-only story is https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/13/illinois-pandemic-aid/. The set of subscriber-only stories changes over time.
