Managed execution
Every figure below is read from the live CBC News endpoint catalog — 5 endpoints, 9 documented request parameters, and 5 published response schemas — the same catalog Docs and Playground run against.
5 documented CBC News endpoints, grouped into 5 request families — Article, Author and Headlines, plus 2 more.
9 request parameters are documented across those CBC News endpoints, 7 of them required — the full input contract is public before you write any integration code.
5 of the 5 CBC News endpoints ship a recorded example response, and 5 carry a documented response schema — you can code against the real JSON before the first request.
CBC News endpoints document their error responses (400, 404, 429 and 503) alongside the success schema, so a block, a rate limit, or a missing record comes back as a typed error rather than silently empty data.
5 hosted MCP tools back the CBC News endpoints, so an agent can call the same routes with the same parameters and the same JSON contract, with no custom glue.

Endpoint catalog
/cbc/headlinesReturns fresh CBC News or CBC Sports headlines from one public section RSS feed. Video, radio, and live-updates links are omitted.
Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 20 items, 6 fields filled in every item. published_at: 2026-10-08 to 2026-10-13; url: cbc.ca.
MCP tool cbc_headlines
/cbc/newsReturns fresh CBC News top stories with no input needed: title, canonical story URL, publication time, byline when given and lead image. Only stories the article endpoint accepts are returned, so video player pages, CBC Radio, Music and Books links and live-updates pages are omitted.
Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 17 items, 4 fields filled in every item, 2 not. published_at: 2025-01-12 to 2026-10-13; url: cbc.ca.
MCP tool cbc_news
/cbc/sectionsLists the 35 CBC News sections that `cbc-headlines` accepts: 8 national desks such as `politics` and `world`, 21 regional newsrooms such as `toronto` and `nova-scotia`, and 6 CBC Sports feeds such as `sports-nhl`. Each has a `slug`, a display `name` and the feed `url`. Top stories come from `cbc-news`, not a section.
Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 35 items, 3 fields filled in every item. name: “World” and 34 other values; url: cbc.ca.
MCP tool cbc_sections
/cbc/articleReturns public CBC News or CBC Sports story metadata and body paragraphs from a canonical story URL. Live-updates pages are not supported.
Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 9 of 9 fields returned with a value. published_at: 2026-09-24; section: “Politics”.
MCP tool cbc_article
/cbc/authorReturns a CBC journalist's profile, identified by `slug` (ending in CBC's author id, such as `darren-major-1.4462710`) or a `https://www.cbc.ca/author/<slug>` `url`; exactly one is required and an unknown author returns 404. The response has name, title, biography, photo, profile links and usually 10 latest articles, with `has_more_articles` showing whether older ones exist.
Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 10 items, 8 fields filled in every item. published_at: 2026-09-15 to 2026-10-10; url: cbc.ca.

How to scrape CBC News
CBC News has both national and local feeds. Preserve province or city labels to avoid losing the distinction between Canada-wide and local reporting. CBC exposes both Canada-wide topics and province or city feeds. Start with the local feed for a place-specific question, then use the national stream to find broader follow-ups; otherwise the same event may be counted twice. On 2026-09-26 its Canada feed included bears in British Columbia and Alberta data-centre sentiment, which should not become one undifferentiated national trend. Retain the location, editorial section, publication time, and canonical article URL for every item before geographic aggregation. A pull on 2026-10-27 listed 35 sections, and the cross-section news route returned 15 stories including one from March 2025.
The sections route lists 35 slugs: 8 national desks (politics, world), 21 regional newsrooms (toronto, nova-scotia) and 6 CBC Sports feeds (sports-nhl).
Video, radio and live-updates links are omitted from section feeds. The news route returns only stories the article endpoint accepts.
Article calls on a canonical CBC News or CBC Sports story URL return metadata and body paragraphs; live-updates pages are not supported.
The author route takes a slug ending in CBC's author id (such as darren-major-1.4462710) or a https://www.cbc.ca/author/<slug> URL, exactly one; an unknown author returns 404.
news returned 15 stories with timestamps from 2025-03-31 08:35 UTC to 2026-10-27 02:55, so a pinned or evergreen story can sit in a latest feed. Sort by published_at and drop stale rows.
world returned 19 stories with a byline on 7, and new-brunswick 20 with a byline on 18, while summaries and images were present throughout.
