TheJournal.ie API endpoint
Returns public TheJournal.ie article metadata and body paragraphs from a canonical article URL. Stories are served in full to anonymous readers, so paywalled is never set.
/thejournal/articleQuery parameter: url is a canonical HTTPS TheJournal.ie story URL on thejournal.ie or www.thejournal.ie, e.g. https://www.thejournal.ie/amazon-refunds-200-cheques-7170610-Sep2026/. A story path ends in a numeric story id and a month-year stamp. Section pages, topic pages, author pages, feed paths and sister-site (the42.ie) URLs return HTTP 400; an unknown story returns HTTP 404.
The endpoint returns public metadata (title, description, published_at, updated_at, section, authors, image_url) and the body paragraphs (paragraphs, list items and sub-heads; ad slots, pull quotes, related-story cards, newsletter sign-up boxes and the sponsor byline are not included). section is the story's label: a type such as Investigation, FactCheck or Column, or the lead topic tag such as Great News for an ordinary news story. Timestamps are converted from the site's Irish local time to UTC.
Paywall behavior: no story in the live sample (news, investigations, FactCheck, opinion and sister-site cross-posts, 2026-09-25) was gated; the full body is in the page an anonymous request receives. paywalled is therefore never set, and the endpoint never tries to bypass a gate.
