How to use USPTO PPUBS endpoints

Crawlora's /usptoppubs/search and /usptoppubs/detail endpoints return USPTO's own full-text patent search results and per-document detail as normalized JSON with one API key — no USPTO account required. A pull on 2026-10-27 for battery electrolyte returned 20 results on page 0, which shows that paging is zero-based and that num_found reflects the page, not the corpus.

Step 1
Search USPTO's index
Send a free-text query to /usptoppubs/search for normalized bibliographic results — title, applicant/assignee, inventors, filing and publication dates, application number, IPC/CPC classifications. Accepts USPTO's full BRS query syntax (field codes, date ranges, boolean and proximity operators).
Step 2
Paginate results
Use the response's page count to page through a query's full result set.
Step 3
Get full document detail
Pass a result's guid and database (source) to /usptoppubs/detail for that document's full abstract, description, and claims text.
Step 4
Start paging at zero
The search response reported page 0 and per_page 20, so the first page is 0, not 1. num_found equalled 20, the page size, on that query; do not read it as a total match count, and keep paging until a page comes back short.
Step 5
Key records on guid and database
Each result has a publication_number such as US20260328760A1, a guid (US-20260328760-A1), a title, a database (US-PGPUB for published applications), applicant names and an assignee name. The detail route needs both guid and source, so store them together.

Fetch a document's full bibliographic data, abstract, description, and claims

Fetches a single USPTO Patent Public Search record's full text -- bibliographic data, abstract, description, and claims -- by GUID and source database. guid and source normally come straight from a prior /usptoppubs/search result's guid and database fields. Public data, sourced from USPTO's own official search tool.

Required: guid, source.

Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 17 fields returned with a value. In the sample: filing_date: 2025-02-07; publication_number: 20,260,238,009; title: “HOME GRID FOR IMPROVED EFFICIENCY OF SOLAR ENERGY”; cpc_codes: 113 characters; applicant_names: 1 entry; database: “US-PGPUB”; inventors_short: “Crane; Eric M”; application_number: “19/048819”.

Search USPTO's own patent full-text search index

Searches USPTO Patent Public Search's full-text index of granted patents and published applications, returning bibliographic results (title, applicant/assignee, inventors, filing and publication dates, application number, IPC/CPC classifications, page count). q accepts USPTO's full Advanced Search query syntax -- field-specific search (e.g. battery.ti., Microsoft.as.), date ranges (@pd>=20200101<=20241231), boolean and proximity operators, and wildcards -- see the markdown doc for the full field-code table and syntax reference.

Sampled 14 Oct 2026: 20 items. Filled in every item: publication_number, guid, title, database, applicant_names, inventors_short, application_number, filing_date and 6 more. Not in every item: assignee_name (17).
