How to use 7NEWS Australia endpoints

7NEWS publishes public national and state reporting as well as 7NEWS Spotlight investigations and exclusives. Crawlora separates current headlines, section feeds, individual stories, and reporter pages into usable JSON. For a state watch, select the relevant state section before comparing it with the national headline stream; a Melbourne update and a national follow-up can describe the same event at different levels. Treat Spotlight investigations as a distinct format from daily breaking coverage, and keep article URL, publication time, byline, and original section with each record. When a breaking story changes, retrieve the article again instead of assuming the first headline contains the final details.

1. Step 1

   Map topic slugs to site paths

   The sections route lists 109 topic slugs. A slug is the site path with slashes replaced by hyphens, so news-sydney, sport-afl and business-property map straight onto 7news.com.au paths; pass only a listed value to the headlines route.

2. Step 2

   Budget 100 stories per call

   Both the headlines route (one topic) and the news route (every section) return the 100 most recent stories, each with title, URL, summary, publication time and an author when credited. Schedule on that window, not on a page count.

3. Step 3

   Keep the paywalled flag even though articles are free

   7NEWS articles are free to read, so article calls return body paragraphs from a canonical 7news.com.au URL. A non-free tier, if one appears, is flagged as paywalled; store the flag instead of assuming access.

4. Step 4

   Resolve the journalist profile

   The author route returns a journalist's name, job title, biography, portrait, public social links and the latest stories on the profile page, which suits attribution and beat tracking.

5. Step 5

   Authors are looked up by slug

   On 2026-10-30 /sevennewsau/author for aimee-edwards returned a role and 11 articles, news-world headlines returned 100 items, and the news route returned 100.
