Managed execution
Every figure below is read from the live RNZ endpoint catalog — 5 endpoints, 9 documented request parameters, and 5 published response schemas — the same catalog Docs and Playground run against.
5 documented RNZ endpoints, grouped into 5 request families — Article, Author and Headlines, plus 2 more.
9 request parameters are documented across those RNZ endpoints, 7 of them required — the full input contract is public before you write any integration code.
5 of the 5 RNZ endpoints ship a recorded example response, and 5 carry a documented response schema — you can code against the real JSON before the first request.
RNZ endpoints document their error responses (400, 404 and 503) alongside the success schema, so a block, a rate limit, or a missing record comes back as a typed error rather than silently empty data.
5 hosted MCP tools back the RNZ endpoints, so an agent can call the same routes with the same parameters and the same JSON contract, with no custom glue.

How to scrape RNZ
RNZ is New Zealand’s non-commercial public-service broadcaster. Its journalism includes Parliament, regional communities, Māori and Pacific affairs, business and climate, and its written news sits alongside a broader audio mission. The cataloged endpoints concern RNZ news articles and public news feeds. Preserve the publisher’s section labels so Māori or Pacific coverage is not buried in a generic national-news bucket, and distinguish a written article from an audio program outside this endpoint family. On 2026-10-27 the sections route listed 19 slugs, and the news feed returned 42 stories over about eight and a half hours without bylines or images. A second pull on 2026-10-27 re-checked the 19-slug section list and the cross-section feed.
The sections route lists 19 slugs, such as news, national, political, business, pacific, te-manu-korihi and weather. Other values return a 400.
The news route returns top stories from the all-news feed with title, article URL, summary and publication time in UTC. Lifestyle guides and audio programme pages are left out.
Article calls take rnz.co.nz/news/<section>/<id>/<slug>. RNZ has no paywall, so the full body is returned.
The author route returns name, role, bio, email, X handle, photo, total story count and the first page of news stories.
Slugs include news, national, world, political, business, pacific, sport and health. news ran from 2026-10-26 16:52 UTC to 2026-10-27 01:24 while community's 11 stories ran from 2026-10-23 to 2026-10-26.
Every sampled row had a summary but no byline or image, so use the article route when attribution or a lead image matters.
RNZ lists 19 slugs (news, national, world, political, business, pacific, sport, health, education, regional, te-manu-korihi and more). On 2026-10-30 news returned 51 headlines and national 47, all with summaries but no bylines or images, and 37 of national's stories were also in news, so treat news as the union and national as a subset.
The cross-section news route returned 42 stories from 2026-10-26 16:52 UTC to 2026-10-27 01:24 UTC, with bylines on none of 42, summaries on 42 of 42 and images on none of 42. Treat it as a recent strip and fetch section feeds or articles for fuller fields.
